WHO DO YOU SAY I AM? [PART 2]

Matthew 16:15 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Do you ask yourself these questions?

  • Who am I?
  • What is my purpose?
  • Why am I here?

If you are like me and have these thoughts racing through your mind then it is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will help you discover what is hidden within you. Although we are not shown the complete picture of how our lives will be, through relationship, God begins to show us what He has in store for us. I asked myself why and how we get to the point of not knowing who we are as children of God, not necessarily losing our identities. I am sure we can come up with a good number of reasons but I narrowed it down to these 3 main points- Intimacy, Trust and Association. Let’s get into it!

INTIMACY

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Our relationship with God is not one-sided, we have a role to play. Just as human relations, when one party is not pulling their weight, it strains the relationship. The distance between us and God impacts our identities, simply put- we struggle to know who we are as children of God because there is no relationship. We have to make the conscious effort to draw near to God. Spending time with God in His presence, in His word and with His Holy Spirit. If you desire to be good at a talent or craft, you invest time to study, learn, research and find out ways you can develop yourself. Nothing comes by just knowing, you have to seek it out. Your destiny is waiting to be uncovered by the One who holds the blueprint of your life. Will you spend time in the word of God? Will you spend time lost in the presence of God, seeking nothing but more of Him. Because the more we seek Him, the more we become what He originally planned. Are you ready to commit yourself to the Holy Spirit?

For some of us, we have to go through breaking and pruning, allowing God to rebuild the wrong identities that have been formed. It is not entirely your fault that you cannot seem to find your grounds in God but if you give Him your life, He will build it. This is heavily reliant on consciousness and intentionality, it is a place of openness and safety. You are assured of the outcome, God will be on this journey with you. Please don’t think that you have gone too far from God that you cannot build a close and intimate relationship with Him.

TRUST

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your paths straight.

I believe it is the desire of God that we trust Him completely and take Him at His word. He created us in His image, He is the perfect person to realign our distorted identities back to what He intended. Trust is powerful and one that a lot of us, even believers struggle with. One morning, when I was going back and forth with the Holy Spirit, He said this- God has not failed any one, He has no record of failure, what makes you, Nana Ama, think that He will start with you. What gives you that audacity? It is safe to say that I had nothing to say afterwards. So, I know, practically that it is easier said than done, but will you trust God to go through this journey with you?

ASSOCIATION

Who you associate with is very important. 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV) Be not deceived: “Evil associations corrupt good manners.” Carefully look through your inner circle and ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to see who is pouring into you, who is speaking to you. Words are powerful, scripture says that, Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit, Proverbs 18:21. The more you allow people speak into your life (be it negatively or positively), the more you embody the words they speak – you begin to believe what is being spoken over you. Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm, Proverbs 13:20.

You have to take charge of your life, guarding your ears and heart. Take your ears as the entry point or door into your house (representing your life). You do not just allow anyone to come into your house, you do not allow strangers in because you can easily tell that this person is a stranger or an intruder. Think about this- Do you vet the people that you know before giving them access into your life? Do you vet the people that you are familiar with and do you actually weigh what they speak into your life? Who have you shared your dream with and what did they say? Be wise and careful about who you give access to, it should be expensive TO GIVE PEOPLE ACCESS into your life. It is the Holy Spirit that can search the hearts of men and give you the ability to discern the motives of those in your close circles.

NEW IDENTITY IN CHRIST

It is very possible to break out and form a new identity in Christ by knowing with conviction what His Word says about you as an individual. To know the depths of your identity, purpose in Christ, you must develop a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit. In this development, the main aim is to get to a point where you bare yourself to Him. Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. You must get to a point where the Holy Spirit strips you off your old identity and rebuilds your new identity. The Holy Spirit will clothe you with the Word of God and teach you how to speak it over your life and act on it.

The truth is that we do not forget the events from our past and almost all the time these 2 entities use our past as a mental play ground- Self or the Devil. How do you confront your thoughts or your old identity if the desire to want to go back starts to rise?

Association– I mention association again because they are key in your growth in Christ. There is a popular saying ‘no man is an island’, we all need human help. Will you sincerely consider the following?

How are your associations affecting you?

Are they making it comfortable or uncomfortable for you to thrive as a born-again Christian?

Who are you surrounding yourself with?

Are you in a bible believing, Holy Spirit filled church?

What are you filling your time with?

These determining factors are among a few that affects our hunger and thirst for a deeper relationship with God through His Holy Spirit. A good seed can be planted on good soil but the conditions may slow or stunt its growth.

Are you willing to let go of the things that God is about to strip you off?

WHOSE OPINION ARE YOU DESPERATELY SEEKING?

God knows you in depth, He knows you through and through. He is a Father who is the very source of everything we need but the choice to connect with Him through His Holy Spirit lies in your hands. Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me”.

PRAYER

In our openness and desire to want to know God more, I pray that any identity that we conformed to, that is not that of the Father, be shifted to that of God’s. May He realign our minds, our thoughts, our views to that of His word. Holy Spirit, teach us to know that you are the Spirit of Truth and that you speak only what you hear from the Father. John 16:13 – But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

Please restore us to the place where You intended for us to be, in Your perfect will for us

Amen

CALL TO SALVATION

If you have not given your life to Christ, or have tried many avenues or exhausted all options, I would like to present Jesus Christ to you. I am introducing you to a relationship and not religion with our Heavenly Father. A Father who loves unconditionally and cares deeply about you. Jesus Christ bore our sins and died on the cross, a death of shame and pain BUT on the 3rd day He rose up again having made a public spectacle of the devil. We are no longer outsiders but joint-heirs to the throne. In this relationship, you are not left to find your way but our Heavenly Father gifts us with the Holy Spirit who helps us in every facet of our lives. John 14:16- And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever.

Would you like to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, then please say this prayer with me-

Lord Jesus, I thank you for going on the cross for me. I thank you for the gift of salvation. I admit that I am a sinner and I confess my sins before you, I surrender my life to you and submit to You. Today I declare that I am yours and I no longer belong to the world. Holy Spirit please come into my life and lead me into all truth.

Amen

If you said this prayer from the genuineness of your heart then welcome to the Body of Christ, welcome to relationship with God through His Holy Spirit. Your past sins are forgiven, each day with the Holy Spirit is an inch closer to fulfilling your destiny and your future is assured in Christ. John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. John 8:36

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus- Philippians 2:5

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.  1 John 3:1

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us]. Ephesians 2:10

WHO DO YOU SAY I AM? [PT. 1]

Matthew 16:15 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

In the beginning God created us in His image and likeness, we were in His form and we were a reflection of God in the garden of Eden. Genesis 1:27, So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Mankind was at a place of intimacy and fellowship with God. At the point of deception, we lost our place, positioning and identity in God. We had come to a place of knowing and having an awareness of our nakedness. In the Garden of Eden, we were covered and clothed with His glory. At the point of disobedience, His glory left man and nakedness befell us. In shame we hid ourselves from God, yet, He came to seek us out.

Identity is so peculiar in our walk with Christ, in fact it is a strong pillar in our foundation and I strongly believe that this is one of the reasons why we battle with it. It is the enemy’s main objective to ensure that you do not come to the full realisation of who you are in Christ. Why? I listened to a sermon a couple of weeks ago and this statement has stayed with me since then- A person can lie or twist the truth because they actually know the truth. Do you see what I am driving at? The devil fights constantly to ensure that you lose your identity in God because he knows the truth that when you come to the full realisation of who you are, you become a threat to his kingdom! Take a moment to think about it.

GOD

There are diverse attributes to God and being His offspring must mean that we have deposits of who He is in us. A child takes after their parents, in other words, a child’s identity is formed by their surroundings, not entirely by what they know. Matthew 18:3 – And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. We are likened to children when we give our lives to Jesus, we become born again and then we grow in Him. It stands to reason that we have to unlearn the things that we picked up throughout our lives, from our homes, environment, culture, surroundings. Why do I say this? Because if we have now been born again in Christ then we have to learn His ways, we have to learn about His presence and His environment. Philippians 2:5 (KJV): Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. It is at that point of unknowingness that you begin to find out your image in God. Our identities as mentioned before are shaped by both internal and external factors such as race, culture, families, schools, community, to name a few. Some of us lost our identities at young ages because of the encounters we had and for others, what we heard. Words are powerful and we so often underestimate this. Many of us can resonate with statements that were made to us that distorted our views about ourselves. Some of us have lost ourselves through the changing scenes of life. Losing your identity does not mean that God has lost the blue print of your life. The original intent of God for your life is still intact and not missing, lost or archived.

HOW DO WE COME TO THE PLACE OF FINDING OUT WHO WE ARE IN GOD?

So you may be like me, who has absorbed a lot of information over the years, be it truth or lies without actually finding out God’s perspective. Unfortunately, the devil can speak through the people closest to us to achieve a goal. Take the example of Jesus and Peter- Matthew 16:21-23 (NKJV) 21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”. 23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

Your first point of call is the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Do you actually know what God has said about you? I do not mean what your family, friends, associates, have said to and about you. I mean what God has said to you as an individual through His Holy Spirit and His Word. Because believe it or not, I pray you believe it, you are actually a part of God’s plan in building His Kingdom, you are actually in His intents and purposes. Do you doubt it? Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. God thinks about you, He has a fully detailed plan for you. His imagination, His plan and His thoughts about you is GOOD and not of evil. He actually knows what He is doing.

I would like to remind you or inform you, in case you do not know that or may have forgotten. YOU are the very expression of God on earth. Do not allow deceit take hold of your identity and rob you off your peace, joy and purpose. We are on a journey of finding out who we are in Jesus Christ and it is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will help every single one of us to get to the point of knowing who we are. AMEN

I pray that you were blessed by this first part of the post. If you have any prayer request, want to find out more resources to help your growth as a believer or you just want to chat, then you can email me- vofhonourministry@gmail.com

DON’T GIVE UP

Waiting on God, patiently waiting and trusting God.

Believers can cover up, making it seem like all is well. Our popular response ‘It is well’. We cover up to the point where even before God, we still keep that cover up. We hide our deeper feelings of pain, anxiety, disappointment from God. It is okay to let God know how you are truly feeling, don’t hide from Him. As you open up to God, be willing to listen to Him, allow His Holy Spirit to comfort you, love on you and encourage you. Don’t spend too much time dwelling on the things that you are expecting from God that you fail to see what He is actively doing in your life. Take time out and look around you, carefully consider it and thank God.

I want to assure you that God is working behind the scenes more than before you. It may seem like He has forgotten you. It may seem like He has shifted His eyes from you. Even in the darkest, most painful moments, even in the midst of confusion He is there. God is more present that you can actually imagine. To the one who is struggling to trust God, to the one who is at the verge of giving up on life. PLEASE HOLD ON. TRUST GOD. It may be dark all around you, it may be your night time but I speak in the power of the Holy Spirit over your life that MORNING is coming. The break of dawn is nigh. Do not give up on GOD, do not give up on the promises He made to you. He is still God in the good times, He is still God in the bad times, He is still God in the ugly and dark times, He is still God in the lonely times. In the state of panic, loneliness, depression, anxiety. God is still working! Trust Him, open up your heart to the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit fill us with you, open our eyes to see you working, help us to come to the realisation that you are here with us. You have not left us, you have not deserted us. We are not alone in these times of uncertainty. You are with us. GOD IN US, IS, THE DEFINITE HOPE OF GLORY

Help us in our helplessness, bear us up in these moments of pain, anger, disappointment. Direct our paths through these dark moments, even though we walk through the darkest valley, we will fear no evil because You are with us. Yes, everything is screaming death and fear YET WILL I TRUST YOU. Heal our hearts, heal our body, heal our minds and make us whole in you Sweet Holy Spirit

Amen

THE VEIL AND THE BLOOD

Exodus 26:33 (NKJV)- 33 And you shall hang the veil from the clasps. Then you shall bring the ark of the Testimony in there, behind the veil. The veil shall be a divider for you between the holy place and the Most Holy.

Mankind in the beginning of creation had intimate, one-on-one relationship with God. God would walk through the Garden of Eden and enjoy fellowship with Adam and Eve. Eden represented a place of fellowship, friendship and intimacy with God. Man lost that privilege when our rights were handed over to Satan through sin and disobedience to God. Man was cast out from the Garden of Eden and from the place of intimacy and fellowship. Rules replaced relationship, man could only go to God through appointed high priests. Hebrews 10:11 (NKJV)- 11 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. Hebrews 9:7(NKJV)-But into the second part the high priest went alone once a year, not without blood, which he offered for himself and for the people’s sins committed in ignorance.

What Does The Veil Represent? It represents the barrier between mankind and God. We, who were once sons and daughters, the delight of God could not have fellowship with Him because of sin and disobedience. We can still create these barriers in our relationship with God. Sin, is indisputably, a barrier but so is our fear of embracing the things that God has instructed us to do or placed in our hearts. We hide behind veils, scared to tap into the giftings that God has placed in us and answering the Call upon our lives. Our disobedience to God creates a barrier between us and Him. Our failure to say YES to Him drifts us away from His presence. It is my prayer that God will unveil us and give us that conviction to say YES and obey His voice.

Do We Now Enjoy Fellowship with God? At the place of crucifixion, Jesus cried out in a loud voice and yielded up His spirit. Matthew 27:51(NKJV)- 51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.

When the veil was torn, it broke that barrier between man and God, now we were given access into the throne room of God through the blood of Jesus. Hebrews 9:11-12(NKJV): 11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

Instead of going to the Most Holy place through high priests with the blood of goats and calves, we can present ourselves to God through the Blood of Jesus. It is through the blood of Jesus that we are sanctified, cleansed and justified. It is through the blood of Jesus that we are presented blameless before God. It is through the blood of Jesus that we can now be called sons and daughters and joint-heirs with Christ. Romans 8:17(NKJV)- and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. The blood of Jesus atones for us, cleanses us and justifies us. The accuser of the brethren, Satan, loses grounds on accusing us- the bonified sons and daughters of God, of things that the blood has washed away and sanctified. 2 Corinthians 5:17(NKJV)- 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. We have been reinstated back to where we lost our positioning and have the opportunity to reconnect back to God, enjoying fellowship and relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit. We can experience fellowship as how Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden, but, we are in a better covenant in that we can have this fellowship at any given point; we have access to the Holy Spirit. We can be walking and moving vessels carrying the Presence of God in our homes, workplaces, communities, churches, countries and nations.

You now see that you were not bought at a cheap price, your atonement and redemption was an EXPENSIVE purchase. God forsook His only begotten Son so that He would gain you. Matthew 27:46 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

It is important to understand that this was not an easy transaction and as a matter of truth, we should not take the gift of salvation for granted.

As a son and a daughter of God, you are chosen and set apart for God, you are a representative of God’s kingdom on earth. This is why you have been set apart, so that, in your salvation others would come to the saving knowledge of Christ. Do not be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:9- But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.

You are valuable to God, you are His most prized possession. You are sanctified, cleansed and justified through the blood of Jesus.

You are royalty

You are special

You are set apart

Do not be afraid to give God your YES, do not be afraid to want to know God more through the Holy Spirit. As you seek after His presence more, He will fill you and clean out the things that are not of Him. 2 Corinthians 3:18-19 (NKJV)- 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just asby the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 3:18-19 (MSG)- Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.

Please say this prayer with me-

Lord Jesus, thank you for going on the cross for me. Thank you that through Your death, I have life and I can now come boldly to the Father. Thank you that through You I am joint-heirs to the throne and I have an inheritance in You. Holy Spirit, help me to walk daily in sanctity and purity as a vessel of God. Help me to overcome the things that I struggle with and take away anything that is in me that is not of You. Thank you for purifying me, thank you for sanctifying me, thank you for justifying me, thank you for making me whole. Please help me Holy Spirit to be and remain obedient to Your voice. Thank you for preparing me for every good work.

VESSEL OF HONOUR- Call to Salvation

2 Timothy 2:20-21(NKJV)-20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honour and some for dishonour. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honour, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

I came across this scripture almost 10 years ago when I was seeking and finding my way back to God. Through the years I had gone through motions and scenes without truly encountering God for myself. I had come to know how to go through church and appear to be present without truly being present. I had come to the point of losing my identity completely in God. Losing my identity in Christ did not happen overnight but I never stopped to figure out where I was at any point in my Christian walk. In truth, I did not have a relationship with God mainly because I did not know who I was in Him. In my 3rd year of university, I had come to a point where, I did not know how but I wanted to have an authentic and true relationship with God. In time of prayer, the Holy Spirit led me to this scripture, 2 Timothy 2:20-21, He reminded me that I am a vessel still useful to God irrespective of how far I thought I had gone from Him. Over the years He restored my identity through Scriptures, fellowship and being in the House of God.

The scripture mentions that in a great house, there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honour and some for dishonour. There is honour and purpose placed in every single one of us. In order to unearth this, we have a responsibility, to be willing to go through the process of cleansing and sanctification. The scripture shows us how to get to the point where we become tools in the hands of the Master, prepared for every good work. It is beautiful that the Holy Spirit, at the point where we surrender our all, is there to help us through the process of cleansing and sanctification. He is our ever-present help in times of need. One of the things that strikes me is that God does not call us when we are already made, He calls us in whatever state that we are in.

To the believer who has lost touch with God, to the one that does not know God, to the one contemplating whether to surrender their all to God- I want to remind you that Jesus stands at the door of your heart knocking and waiting for access into your heart. He is waiting to come into your life and clear out the things that have become a heavy laden, things that have become dishonourable. He is willing and ready to embark on this journey with you, if you are willing and ready to be cleansed and sanctified. God has purpose for you, God has use for you and He calls for you, He calls for fellowship, He calls for a relationship with you through His Holy Spirit.

If you have come to a point of indecision, if you have come to a point where you feel you have exhausted everything out there, I present Jesus Christ to you. His word says- 28 Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light, (Matthew 11:28-30)”. We live in a harsh and wicked world, we have been disappointed and have endured pain but Jesus still knocks at the door of our heart to come in and mend the brokenness

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved and cleansed from all unrighteousness, (1 John 1:9).

Salvation simply rests on the wings of confession and believing that Jesus Christ is Lord. He does not leave us when we surrender everything to Him, He gifts us the Holy Spirit who is our Helper. “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever“, John 14:16.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, today, I confess that I am a sinner and I believe that you died and rose again. Today I declare boldly that I accept Jesus Christ into my heart, I let go off everything and accept you as my Lord and Personal Saviour. I accept your Holy Spirit into my life, please come and dwell in my life. Amen

If you said this prayer, welcome to the Body of Christ. You are about to embark on a journey with God through His Holy Spirit. His glory will be revealed and as a vessel of honour you will be prepared for every good work
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
